DHARMADATTA CHOIR
Giving voice to our aspirations for the world is an important expression of our spiritual path. We find that singing and as chanting allow us to involve our full selves in that path. When we sing together in community, our hearts align. Our vocal cords resonate with one another, and our minds come into sync as well. Singing together is important to our community as an embodied, moving and collective way to experience our spiritual lives.
We are extremely fortunate that our community is spiritual home to a substantial number of musicians and talented singers. After several years of informally creating melodies suited to Latinx sensibilities, a community choir emerged. Dharmadatta Choir – or “La Coral Dharmadatta” – unites the voices of Buddhist practitioners from Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Colombia, Spain, Argentina and other countries to recite mantras and other sacred sounds.
The choir can be heard here or on our YouTube channel, in this video that was originally produced in Spanish to serve as the basis for group recitation sessions in our community’s online practice space, the “Salas de meditación Dharmadatta”, where more than 40,000 members gather for regularly scheduled group practice sessions.
We are deeply grateful to Sylvia Wetzel’s practice community for sharing their melody with us and granting their permission for our choir to sing it.
